| Sumatras are heavy hitters, full of body, sweetness, chocolate earthiness. This Sumatra has mild sweet berry notes to it, a change from my usual supplier, to offset the earthiness. If the Central Americans are complex and full of nuance, deserving of thought and consideration, this Sumatra is in your face and ready to throw down. I roast this to a medium roast, a bit lighter than my previous Sumatra, just to the start of second crack. It makes a fine, robust cup of wake-me-up in the morning, drip or (heavy, thick, low-toned) espresso. The fact that it's Fair Trade is just icing on the cake! | |
