Did you know the most important decisions in the world have been made over a cup of coffee? That coffee is the most traded commodity in the world, over oil? Coffee is politics, economics, culture, and life, in your cup.
Each sip is a destination. Savor it!

| This cooperative has their own processing facility, using S. American methods, which results in a very high quality cup that highlights the best flavors Rwanda is capable of, in spades. Floral and citrus in the aroma carry over at first sip, with notes of melon, clove, and light cacao flavors. Body is medium but silky smooth, and darker roasts bring out a Bing cherry sweetness. I picked up some great Rwanda's last year; this year is looking even better! |

Here it is again, folks: grown by a husband and wife on 5 acres, by hand; shade grown; bird-friendly; chemical-free; watered with fresh-off-the-volcano aquifer water; and tasty as all heck. More care is put into this coffee than any other I know, and it shows in the cup. It's medium bodied, with a coconutty flavor that crosses into hazelnut, and tropical fruit abounds (star fruit?).

Ethiopia coffee export rules changed not to long ago; all lots are made anonymous when they enter the government warehouse. So, the exact origin of this coffee is unknown (Yirgacheffe produces a lot of coffee). Most Yirgacheffe's are wet-processed, this is dry-processed; the Gedio zone produces most dry-process Yirg's, and that's as close as I can figure.
But nevermind: it's superb! Like the Dara Kebado, this is highly fruited, both dry and wet aroma. Lemon wafer, apricot jam, and blueberry abound in the fragrance, and carry over into the cup. Juicy berry, lemon meringue pie, vanilla, mild anise notes, toasted coconut and almond, and raw honey, with nice viscosity when brewed as drip, as well as exquisite as a single origin espresso.

This Yemen is very balanced, dense, and syrupy, with cacao nibs, sandalwood, allspice and cloves, drenched in concord grape, dried apricot, and mango sweetness. Peaches, chai tea, currants, and potent honey in the very clean, non-typical (for a Yemen) finish make this a spectacular example of what a good Yemen can offer. |

| Sumatras are heavy hitters, full of body, sweetness, chocolate earthiness. This Sumatra has mild sweet berry notes to it, a change from my usual supplier, to offset the earthiness. If the Central Americans are complex and full of nuance, deserving of thought and consideration, this Sumatra is in your face and ready to throw down. I roast this to a medium roast, a bit lighter than my previous Sumatra, just to the start of second crack. It makes a fine, robust cup of wake-me-up in the morning, drip or (heavy, thick, low-toned) espresso. The fact that it's Fair Trade is just icing on the cake! |

ROAST RATING: ESPRESSO MEDIUM ROAST |
Like most espresso blends, this blend has changed since I first offered it, as new coffees are cycled in and out every season. My goals are still the same for this blend: to create a blend that will please an espresso novice, as well as a pro-barista; a blend that'll taste good straight or in milk; and one that will remain easy to work with.
The current iteration of Torro fulfills all those parameters. It's comprised of a Brazil Daterra, Organic Ethiopia Amaro Gayo, Colombia El Castillo, and Sumatra Mandheling. It's thick and sweet, with a nice tangy acidity from the Colombia, and creamy berry overtones from the Ethiopia. It's outstanding as a straight espresso, and holds up very well even in long milk drinks. I'm very proud of this blend, I hope you'll enjoy!
I was privileged enough to have my coffee reviewed by both a professional barista HERE and Mark Prince HERE. So check those out, buy a pound, and let me know what you think!

| Ahh, decaf; it looks like coffee, smells like coffee, and tried so hard to BE good coffee, but alas, it usually falls short of the mark. Not so with our delicious Decaf Espresso Torro. Crema? Thick and oozing. Body? Syrupy. Sweet? Check. Acidity? C'mon now, you know it! |
